On average, I would say I visit the site five times a week – actually, that is probably pretty conservative, and some days I keep coming back for more.I am so thankful for all of the inspiration that comes with this online community. I am no longer the only person I know that sews the majority of her own clothing, or can spend hours perusing the button or notion aisle of a fabric shop. While I have mostly been a wallflower in the online sewing community, I have just started my own blog, and cannot wait to get more involved!
Can you see why those seams should line up?The seam allowances can be finished in a number of ways. The skirt is cut on the bias and on my fabric, at least, is not apt to fray. You can serge the seams allowances, but be sure the serged seam isn’t so thick that it will show through the fashion fabric when you iron it. You can also pink your seam allowances. The choice is yours.
By the way, traditionally the word “Pashmina” (a Persian word for “finest wool fiber”) referred to pashm (the wool) once spun into yarn, while the word Cashmere was used to describe the traditional shawl. Why Cashmere? Because originally in the 15th century only Kashmiri weavers had the skills to weave the pashm into scarves that the Mughal, the then rulers of India, were so fond of. Since Napoleon’s time (he gave a Cashmere shawl to his wife Josephine and triggered a Cashmere craze in Europe) the definitions have changed, at least in Europe: Pashmina refers to the scarf and Cashmere to the fiber.
