As I said before, I’m kind of messy and impatient, and lazy too so hand stitching is a nightmare for me, ripping seams is really annoying as well.I would like to learn about pattern making and alterations because I have bought some commercial patterns that turned out to be totally wrong for me. I wasn’t able to fix them, it was frustrating, a total waste of money and time and a big loss of hair! I would love to be able to make a garment from A to Z: draw the pattern, print the fabric, and stitch everything together.
One of the costs we endure is the creation of the Burda patterns. In order to get that Burda fit that we have all come to love and rely on, the patterns must travel around the world! We create the pattern designs here then they are sent to Offenburg, Germany, the home of Burda! From there the patterns are created and put into a format which make them easy to print. Then I went (ran) back to my iron to press up the sleeve hems. I needed to use some pressing hams to get the allowance to lay nice. Once I was back at my machine I sewed the sleeve hem in place (from the wrong wide) and the garment hem in place also (from the right side). When there is a larger allowance I like to topstitch from the wrong side, and when there is a smaller allowance I like to topstitch from the right side of the garment!
