I know it has been a while since I have published a sewing lesson post like this, and if you guys like them I’ll continue to do so.Being a short person, I jumped on the maxi dress trend a little late thinking it would look horrible on me. However, after finally giving in and sewing one, I have to admit, with the right design and fabrics, it looked fabulous on. This spring, maxi dresses are the ‘it’ look and I don’t plan on letting this trend go by. The problem? There’s hardly any patterns available, so what’s a girl to do?
If you are more of a visual learner, I would definitely recommend starting with sewing a practice dress since the pattern has all written instructions. I had a bit of difficulty with the instructions on installing the cap sleeves, but at least my seam ripping corrections were made and figured out with the practice fabric.
It’s fun. It really is fun to treadle a sewing machine and in the scheme of things it’s not hard. It’s not like learning to play the piano; it’s more like learning to play a player piano.BONUS REASON #2It’s super quiet, making a gentle clackety-clack.
